COBYS Corporate Culture

Motivated by Christian faith, COBYS Family Services educates, supports, and empowers children and adults to reach their full potential.

COBYS employees and the COBYS community serve children and families in need. That is an underlying fact and part of every job description of every position at COBYS. It is core to working to fulfill and support our mission statement.

But COBYS employees are also called to serve each other. One way we recognize and put a name on that is in our Core Values.

Core Values

LIFE IS SACRED – Believing that all people are created in the image of God, we recognize the inherent worth of each client by exhibiting empathy, compassion, and respect.

INTEGRITY – We strive to be honest, authentic, and trustworthy in saying what we mean, matching our behaviors to our words, and taking responsibility for our actions.

FAITH – Jesus is Lord of our organization. We trust him to provide for our ministry’s needs and to empower transformation in our own lives and in the lives of those we serve.

TEAMWORK – Respecting our unique contributions, we value and care for each other, both personally and professionally, and enjoy working and growing together.

SERVANTHOOD – Servant leadership is reflected perfectly in the life and person of Jesus Christ. We seek to integrate the highest standards of professionalism with Christ’s example of joyful service.

The work of COBYS Family Services is serious. It is challenging. It is sometimes messy. It is often heartbreaking. But it is necessary. And honorable. And life-altering. COBYS employees work hard at hard work. And with our community, we care for each other and help each other with that work.

Because the work we do can be difficult, we acknowledge and celebrate success and effort. We typically gather as a company on a number of occasions throughout the year: a company breakfast, an annual fall picnic and a Christmas party – complete with a cookie baking competition. We also have “unofficial” pop-up celebrations like 80’s Ice Cream Day (we stop what we’re doing and eat ice cream when the temperature hits 80 degrees for the first time of the year), and the “Snow-Go” melting snow prediction competition.

COBYS employees often pitch in to help run some of our fundraising events. Department and leadership meetings include time for sharing personal life highlights and challenges and include time for prayer.

Our goal to serve and care for the kids and families who come to us. We accomplish that by also serving and caring for each other.

Meeting the needs of special needs children can be difficult but also rewarding as we see the progress they make: learning to talk, strengthening leg muscles, learning what foods to feed them to gain weight, and seeing them get well when they are sick.
