Bike and Hike – 2020

Here’s how you can participate in the 2020 edition of Bike & Hike!

Planned Date: September 13, New Rules

Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the Lititz Church of the Brethren • 300 West Orange Street, Lititz, PA 17543

We’ve made adjustments to Bike & Hike this year keeping social distancing and changing guidelines in mind. Final determinations for the “day of” event will be made closer to September 13.

Bikers and Hikers: Bicyclists and walkers will have a start time “window”, with rolling starts. Motorcyclists are scheduled to start together at 12:30. Participants will check in, get their t-shirt, then start their route when they are ready. This “staggered” start plan spreads the groups over time, reducing the size of the gathering at any given time.

Motorcycles: 12:30 p.m.
Bicycle (25 mile): Between 1:30-2:00 p.m.
Bicycle (10 mile): Between 2:00-2:30 p.m.
Walkers (3 mile): Any time after 11:30 a.m.

When participants return, they may pick up prizes and refreshments. COBYS staff will be available at the church until 5:00 p.m.  

Linked are the instructions for the proposed routes to be used on September 13, or to be used at your convenience prior to that day. The motorcycle and bike routes will be marked two weeks before the event. Routes: 65-mile motorcycle route, 25-mile bicycle route, 10-mile bicycle route, 3-mile walking route. As always, please use every precaution to allow for a safe, enjoyable journey.

 

Choose Our Course or Your Own; Rack Up Miles or Do a Challenge.

With group gathering restrictions in place, participants may choose to “Walk/Ride Where You Are”, choosing your own date and time. 

Option 1: Walk or ride on your own time, on our course or your own course. Simply gather your sponsors as usual, but do your walk/ride at a time convenient to you.

Option 2: The Challenge. Up your game a notch, and rack up the miles. Have your sponsors support you per mile and set a goal for a week or month. You could even start a friendly competition with your friends to see who can log the most miles. Download this handy spreadsheet to track your miles. Mileage competition will be calculated weekly from August 17 to September 13. The person logging the most miles in each category will receive a prize.

In honor of COBYS celebrating of 40 years of service, Mark will cover 40 miles on foot the week prior to September 13. Mark will run, walk (even crawl if it comes to that), to go one mile for each year COBYS has served the community. If you aren’t able to walk or ride (or even if you are), consider sponsoring Mark with a pledge per mile or a set amount. 

Please support Mark’s commitment to COBYS as he logs the miles for our kids and families.

How It Works

1. READY: Register: Pre-register online or by mailing a registration form with your registration fee. Pre-registration is encouraged. Registration is available the day of the event. We encourage you to bring a friend or two!

2. SET: Gather Sponsorships: Enlisting sponsors is optional, but we encourage you to expand the circle of giving by inviting friends and family to support your efforts. Use a sponsor sheet or download this spreadsheet that does the math for you. Or, Click here to register/donate on-line, and you can even create your personal fundraising page to forward to family and friends. The top three fundraisers will receive prizes!

3. GO: Complete your walk or ride on your own time, or come to the 24th annual Bike & Hike on September 13. If you complete your course on your own, or are unable to walk or ride that day, please stop by to the Lititz Church of the Brethren between 12:00-5:00 pm to pick up your T-shirt and a door prize.

Registration

Required minimum donation for registration for each participant (walkers, bicyclists and motorcyclists) is $30 per person. Individuals who raise $30 or more in pledges do not need to pay the registration fee. All participants who pre-register will have opportunity to get a t-shirt.

If you pre-register by September 6, 2020 you may deduct $5 from the registration fee.
